More and more students from other countries decide to receive higher education in Ukraine. But is it so easy to enter a foreign country and obtain a residence permit in it? In this article, we will try to make sense out of this.

Upon arrival at the university, the procedure for enrolling an international student begins. The procedure is bureaucratic and requires certain documents. In the documentary aspect, the student is required to submit originals of all documents, copies of which he had sent on admission. This package of documents includes the original of certificate of complete secondary education with grades, as well as a passport.
In the absence of original documents, the university has the right to refuse to enroll the student for studies.
In addition to the original documents, the student must provide their notarized translations. The entire package of documents is submitted to the Migration Service of Ukraine with a request to obtain a temporary residence permit.
Specificity of registration of a residence permit
After submitting the documents to the Migration Service of Ukraine, the foreign student undertakes to pay all fees associated with the registration of a temporary residence permit. These expenses include:
- payment for migration services;
- payment of fees for the registration of a residence permit, including payment for a special form;
- payment of the insurance policy for a year.
After submitting documents and paying all taxes and fees, the student needs to wait for the date of registration of the residence permit. The duration of the issuance depends on the city. The more foreign students studying in a particular city, the longer is the waiting period for the issuance of a residence permit. For example, in Kiev this period can last up to three months.
An important point is the fact that the original passport is submitted to the Migration Service. So how is the student managing without documents? The migration service has also foreseen this, therefore, for the period of registration of the temporary residence permit, the student is given a special certificate stating the full name of the student and the name of the university where the foreigner is studying. Also, this certificate contains a photo of the student. It is this certificate that becomes the personal identification document of the foreigner for the entire period of registration of the residence permit.
If the foreign student is stopped by the police, he must present this certificate, otherwise he can be detained by law enforcement agencies to find out the identity of the detainee. That's why it's important to carry this certificate with you. After the residence permit is ready, the Migration Service notifies the university about this, and the student must come there to sign the final documents. After this, the student will be returned a passport and residence permit.
Features of such a document as a residence permit
The residence permit in Ukraine is called "posvidka". This document has the form of a blue booklet, which lists all the personal data of the foreign student. It is the "posvidka" granting the student the right to study and live on the territory of Ukraine.
As you can see, getting a residence permit in Ukraine is a fairly simple procedure for foreign students. The most important factor is attentiveness and availability of originals of all documents, and this will allow you to become a temporary resident of Ukraine in the shortest possible time.
